The rate is 4% higher compared to 2013’s visit rate.
Alfredo Venero, Head of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Board Arequipa regional government, said the tourism growth in this region was “what had been expected.”
The arrival of national tourists was 1’094,522, which is a higher number, if compared to the 1’045,532 visitors registered the prior year.
Additionally, he noted the number of Peruvians interested in visiting Arequipa, and its touristic attractions, is increasing.
Peruvians usually take advantage of their holidays and long weekends to travel to the region, he explained.
Regarding foreign tourism, Venero stated last year 217,901 foreign visitors traveled to the region, which represented a higher number if compared to its 2013 similar period, when 216,085 people from overseas arrived.
The Head of Arequipa’s Foreign Trade and Tourism foresees tourism will grow by 10% this year, considering in present year many international events will be held in the city.
