Tourists wishing to stay the whole day in the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu will require two tickets starting July 1, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed on Wednesday.
PromPeru announced there will be two shifts in which visitors can head to the famous Inca ruins as of said date.
Aimed at general public, the site will be open from 06:00 to 12:00 and from 12:00 to 17:30.
The measure is intended to allow a smooth flow of tourists into Machu Picchu —Peru’s main tourist attraction located in Urubamba province (Cusco region).
The decision was taken in compliance with Regulation on Sustainable Use and Tourist Visit for the Conservation of the Llaqta or Inca city of Machu Picchu, passed by ministerial resolution No. 070-2017-MC.
Furthermore, tourists will need to hire a guide to tour the place. Guides will be able to lead groups of up to 16 people.
Those wishing to return will be given a ticket to get into the site the following day. The ticket must be shown at the entrance to the citadel.
