Peru’s e-passport is the winner of the Regional ID Document of the Year 2016, granted by the High Security Printing Latin America in recognition to the security it provides to Peruvian citizens travelling worldwide, the National Superintendence of Migration reported.
According to the government office’s head Boris Gonzalo Potozen Braco this competition —organized by Reconnaissance International— brings together Latin American organizations that issue and produce government official documents.
The award was given for the government’s adoption of a safe travel policy implemented through the National Superintendence of Migration — an office attached to the Ministry of the Interior.
“It’s such a pleasure for Peru to receive this honor, which is a result of the sustained work, effort, and dedication to create a secure travel document for us to go around the world safely,” Potozen said as he accepted the prize.
The special ceremony took place in Mexico City in the presence of 280 delegates and representatives from over 200 organizations.
The e-passport program was delivered by a consortium of the French state printer Imprimerie Nationale and Gemalto.
Among the security features integrated into the new e-passport are an exclusive watermark, UV, rainbow and intaglio print, OVI, latent image and nano-text.
