A total of 51,372 domestic and foreign visitors flocked to different protected natural areas across Peru during the long weekend for Holy Week, which is a 22.8% increase from the same period last year.
According to the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp), these natural destinations have gained popularity due to their unique landscapes, cultural wonders and adrenaline charged activities.
The Guano Islands, Isles And Capes National Reserve System was, once again, the most visited spot; its Ballestas Islands area welcomed 18,295 visitors, who enjoyed the beautiful coastal-marine zone and came across various local species including Humboldt penguins, guano birds and sea wolves.
Meanwhile in the highlands, Huascaran National Park (Ancash region) established itself as one of tourists’ favorite destinations. 11,953 getaway seekers visited this natural area that offers a variety of activities such as trekking, climbing, bicycle rides, combined with stunning views of beautiful snow-capped peaks and emerald-colored lakes.
This year growth also favored the National Reserve of Paracas, in Ica region, which welcomed 11,600 visitors who, besides enjoying sun and beach days, felt an adrenaline rush of adventure sports such as sand board, kite surf, paragliding, bicycle and quad bike rides. They were in contact with nature as well.
