A technical committee was set up to promote Southern Peruvian Puno region’s most relevant tourist attractions.
The aforementioned committee will be in charge of elaborating the tourist development plan designed, so visitors will stay for longer periods of time in the region.
“The tourist tickets will provide travelers the opportunity to visit several tourist attractions by only acquiring one ticket, as is the case in many cities of the country, such as Cusco and Arequipa,” said Gary Mariscal, the head of the Decentralized Culture Administration at the Culture Ministry.
The meeting was held at the Decentralized Directorate of the Culture Ministry. It was attended by representatives of 14 municipalities involved in the project and the regional head of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry.
The committee will elaborate regulations required for the tourist ticket implementation and price setting.
Once approved, it would enter into force next year. A percentage of revenue would be allocated to the municipalities for carrying out improvement and conservation works.
Among the Puno’s main tourist attractions are: Carlos Dreyer Museum, Lake Titicaca, Uros, Amantani and Taquile Islands, Pucara ruins, the Sillustani chullpas, as well as the Juli Colonial Temples located in Chucuito, among others.
